NEW DELHI: A leading rubber industry agency has predicted Malaysia will emerge as the world's top condom producer this year, dethroning Thailand as the market leader.

The Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council said Malaysia has captured at least one-third of the world's production, surpassing the one billion mark.

“We can be the world's No. 1 this year due to flood woes in Thailand. Our last year's production figures would have easily crossed a billion condoms,” said Low Yoke Kiew, the council's marketing and development director.

In 2010, Malaysia, the world's fourth largest natural rubber producer, shipped out latex-made sheath contraceptives worth nearly RM300mil, almost tripling the export value in 2005.

Malaysia, backed by the strong latex products industry, largely small and medium size, joins the billion-piece condom makers' club, coincidentally dominated by Asian giants.

Top Asian manufacturers such as Thailand, China, India, Japan and Malaysia continue to flood global markets with over 10 billion condoms.

Ultra-thin, multi-coloured-scented condoms, sold in fancy packets in nook-and-corners are a fast-growing consumer item, even in a conservative market like India where they are sold in public vending machines.

Besides rising health awareness and cheap and easily used contraceptives, the United Nations health programmes and sexual advertisements are pushing up condom sales globally.

In China, over two billion condoms are sold, while the Japanese buy 580 million pieces a year. India's production has crossed a billion pieces.

“Malaysian condoms are in good demand and competitive. We're now supplying a lot to UN programmes. We expect very good growth for all our latex products this year, including condoms,” Low added.

Condom makers rely on natural rubber, as over 90% of the sheath contraceptives are made using latex, while lamb intestines is another material used in the industry.

The first rubber condom was produced in 1855, apparently as thick as a bicycle inner tube. Eventually, sophisticated technology has revolutionised condom production into almost weightless, lubricated and cheap items. - Bernama

I noticed a certain habit/practice of a certain bookshop located at Gajah Berang. It so annoying when the cashier at the counter tells me this everytime I asked her about things. For example:

scenario 1:it was going to rain and I had to go somewhere. Had a novel on my hand and I was not carrying an umbrella that particular time. I love books so much that I didn't want to get book wet. I head into the bookshop in need of a plastic bag to used to protect in from the rain. I asked for one and she told me in her seriously annoying blank face, " I cannot give you, my boss said so".

I said, " Well is not Saturday right? (referring to no plastic day on Saturday)

"Sorry I cannot give you"

I walked off saying, " Okay, now that's stupid".

scenario 2:
As I am about to pay at the counter

Another lady at the cashier counter told me, " Can you wait for a moment, my boss is not here"

What I would say is that is a very dumb. I think the boss should just handle the bookshop by himself/herself?..and I just need one plastic bag.So ridiculous!!!

Random movie review: The darkest hour

Watching the darkest hour is like walking somewhere aimlessly and without any directions.
The concept of the story is so week, the character doesn't have the chance to develop. The characters are characters that you will not have feelings or invest on. You won't go, " Run dude!! Run, don't die!!". The plot in this movie is so thin and some scenes are ridiculous that it will make you laugh out loud. I don't feel the characters are going through a dark and bleak situation-not sense of suspense. The scenarios that are played out are to coincidental to be true.
I love science fiction movies, and I could say that World of the World make this movie look even more stupider.

In 1967 in Greenville Mississippi, known Klan member Sam Cayhall is accused of bombing the law offices of Jewishung civil rights activists Marvin Kramer, killing kramer's two sons. Cayhall's first trial, with an all-white jury and a Klan rally outside the courtroom, ends in a hung jury; the retrial six month later has the same outcome.

Twelve years later an ambitious district attorney in Greenville reopens the case. Much has changed since 1967, and this time, with a jury of eight whites and four blacks, Cayhall is convicted. He is transferred to the state penitentiary on death row.
In 1990, in the huge Chicago law firm Kravitz & Bane a young lawyer named Adam Hall asks to work on the Cayhall case, which the firm has handles on a pro bono basis for years. But the case is all but lost and time is running out: within weeks Sam Cayhall will finally go to the gas chamber. Why is the world would Adam want to get involved?

Review:
Another court room legal thriller written, The Chamber touchy subject on the death penalty is an interesting subject matter throughout the whole book. You can help but root for the death row convict in spite of his wrong doings in the past and especially Adam Hall who has to deal with his past life.
I won't spoil much of the plot here, but I would say that the chamber is a good read. As usual, John Grisham is a writer that has the ability to put you right into the action. Not as gripping as a Time to Kill but the pacing on this one is fluid and good enough for wanting to know what will happen at the end.
At the end of the day, it makes you question this: Why the death penalty? Are we as cruel as the convicted if we do so passing the judgement and killing? Would forgiveness be the better way? and why all that racism at the first place?
Highly recommendable read for its grim subject matter and the way its written.

A bunch of my friends and I had dinner, last night. There was Tron Legacy on the television as we were eating our dinner. Throughout the whole time we were there ordering out dishes and eyeing on the television, we agreed upon one thing,Tron Legacy had to many flying sequence going on that we got lost in the stories. It was pretty senseless for us.

I was having the severe rash all over my face like two days ago. I have to admit it itched like hell and I got a crazy theory as to why it happened..

this was how the position of the liquid repellent and my sleeping position. Picture are for illustration purposes only( not in anyway the author of this blog)

I think I radiated myself with a lethal dosage of Ridsect goodnight liquid 90 days (mosquito repellent), for a a good few days(I am assuming). So there comes the itched on the face. Why I said this is because after realizing how close my face was to the thing, I switched it off, and after that, itch stop completely....Do you think that was the reason for the crazy rash and itchiness on my face?

Sometimes, when you take a shower first thing in the morning, you will get a burning prickly sensation on your skin, and when you looked for it, you noticed that you had a cut which you have no idea at the first place how it got there??? Review on the book:
I love how the plot goes as Mark is in deep trouble for knowing such a live changing secret. How his world is turned upside down by a desperate and group of legal prosecutors and a bad bullying mafia head. Even though Mark is eleven in the book, John Grisham tells him in such a way that his a very real and functioning character, when in truth he is only a kid.
The energy from the first page to the last is relentless- truly gripping that you wouldn't want to put the book down. The narrative just flows from one chapter to another seamlessly

Sam Schmid, an Arizona college student believed to be brain dead and poised to be an organ donor, miraculously recovered just hours before doctors were considering taking him off life support.
Schmid, a junior and business major at the University of Arizona, was critically wounded in an Oct. 19 five-car accident in Tucson.
The 21-year-old's brain injuries were so severe that the local hospital could not treat him. He was airlifted to the Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Phoenix, where specialists performed surgery for a life-threatening aneurysm.
As hospital officials began palliative care and broached the subject of organ donation with his family, Schmid began to respond, holding up two fingers on command. Today he is walking with the aid of a walker, and his speech, although slow, has improved.
Doctors say he will likely have a complete recovery. He even hopes to get a day pass from the hospital to celebrate the holidays with his large extended family.
"Nobody could ever give me a better Christmas present than this -- ever, ever, ever," said his mother, Susan Regan, who is vice-president of the insurance company Lovitt-Touche.
"I tell everyone, if they want to call it a modern-day miracle, this is a miracle," said Regan, 59, and a Catholic. "I have friends who are atheists who have called me and said, 'I am going back to church.'"
Schmid's doctor, renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Robert Spetzler, agreed that his recovery was miraculous.
"I am dumb-founded with his incredible recovery in such a short time," said Spetzler. "His recovery was really remarkable considering the extent of his lethal injuries."
Hospital officials are crediting Spetzler with having a "hunch" that despite an initially dire prognosis, the young man would make it. But he said it was "reasonable" for others to consider withdrawing the patient from life support.
"It looked like all the odds were stacked against him," said Spetzler, who has performed more than 6,000 such surgeries and trained the doctor who operated on Congressman Gabrielle Giffords after she was shot at the beginning of this year.
During surgery, Spetzler clipped the balloonlike aneurysm in the blood vessel -- "as if I were patching a tire," a procedure that eventually worked.
For days Schmid didn't seem to be responding, but what puzzled his doctor was that he did not see fatal injuries on the MRI scan. So he decided to keep Schmid on life support longer.
"There was plenty wrong -- he had a hemorrhage, an aneurysm and a stroke from the part of the aneurysm," Spetzler said. "But he didn't have a blood clot in the most vital part of his brain, which we know he can't recover from. And he didn't have a massive stroke that would predict no chance of a useful existence."
So while the family was given a realistic picture of Schmid's poor chances for survival, Spetzler ordered one more MRI to see if the critical areas of the brain had turned dark, indicating brain death.
"If not, we would hang on and keep him on support," he said. "But I didn't want to give the family false hope."
Schmid's mother said no one "specifically" asked if her son would be a donor, but they "subtly talk to you about quality of life."
"At some point, I knew we had to make some sort of decision, and I kept praying," said Regan.
The MRI came back with encouraging news during the day and by evening Schmid "inexplicably" followed the doctors' commands, holding up two fingers.
"It was like fireworks all going off at the same time," said Spetzler.
Today, Schmid -- his speech clear and sounding upbeat -- told ABCNews.com, "I feel fine. I'm in a wheelchair, but I am getting lots of help."

Sam Schmid Has No Memory of the Accident
He said he remembers nothing of the accident nor coming around after being in an induced coma. "It wasn't until I woke up in rehab," he said. "But they told me about afterwards."
Schmid was returning from coaching basketball at his former Catholic school when a van swerved into his lane. The Jeep in which he was riding went airborne, hit a light pole and landed on its side.
Schmid's left hand and both of his femurs broke and required surgery. But the worst were the traumatic head injuries, which were complex and nearly always fatal.
All those involved say the support that Schmid got from family and friends -- and especially the care at Barrow -- may have made the difference. His brother John, a 24-year-old IT specialist, took a leave of absence from his job in Chicago to be at his brother's bedside.
Family flew in from around the country, and Delta Chi fraternity brothers made regular visits, even creating a mural for their friend.
"It seems like we were being led down a path to plan for the worst and that things were not going to work out," said John Schmid. "The miracle, to put it bluntly, was that in a matter of seven days, we went from organ donation to rehab. What a roller coaster it was."
He said his brother's speech is slow, but he understands what others are saying. Sam Schmid's athleticism -- as a basketball coach and snowboard instructor -- probably helped, he said.
"Honestly, I am at a loss for words," said John Schmid. "I am just so proud of Sam. He's got a strong constitution and he's very determined. But it's been quite an eye-opener for me -- a real learning curve. You can't take anything for granted."
Sam Schmid's surgeon agrees.
"You get incredible highs when you save someone facing neurological devastation or death," said Spetzler. "That is counter-pointed by the incredible lows when you fail to help someone."
"In a way, his recovery was truly miraculous," he said. "It's a great Christmas story."
Ever the scientist, Spetzler wasn't willing to speculate what a comatose patient hears. But he admits, "There are so many things we don't understand about the brain and what happens at the time someone is near death."
"The whole family was at his side during the day and at night hovering over him, then to see there was a chance after being ready to let go," he said. "But I am very much a big believer that positive thoughts and positive energy in a room can only help."

You know when I was watching Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol this afternoon, I have to admit, I was anticipating for the Burj Khalifa scene where Agent Ethan Hunt clings onto the facade window to get up to some floors up above. So they have to go to Dubai after an awful even that took place in Kremlin Russia.
So there was this camera shot, an aerial shot to be exact of the desert and the camels. It swoop across and it was dry and humid as you might expect from a desert country and minutes after that, Burj Khalifa emerges from the glaring sun up ahead.
No long after that scene, it got me thinking? How on earth did a desert place became an oasis for a very short period of time. How for example you get to nourish the land so dry and make it hospitable. How do buildings get build so fast in such a short period of time. Then, I remembered this one article, and after giving it much thought, it got much clearer that Dubai is seriously hiding some sh**t.

When I first heard about this movie in its preproduction stage, I was so afraid that it is going to be another fight between good vs evil and how the mutants have a hard time coexisting with the human race. This movie is totally the opposite as it explain exactly how Professor X and Magneto became arch enemies because of their different philosophy in using ther mutant powers. I can really relate to this movie as we ourselves struggle when we attain power.

Uninspiring, with a senseless plot and storyline. This movie proves that Michael Bay is a professional pyrotechnics specialist than a movie director. He tries so hard to entertain but when you take your time to dissect the movie, its just full of relentless blowups and action sequence that a plausible story (which was left on the curb). Sorry, I am not fool this time.

I remembered when I was little, my mum had the love for mixtapes. If you don't know what a mixtape is, an empty cassette is brought into a music store back then. If there is a list of songs you have preference for, you can write it down on a list and have the music store owner, record the songs in the cassette tape for the whole duration that cassette can hold( or how many songs you fancy in one).

here is a picture of a cassette for a mixtape

so for example, you can compile a list of songs such as below:

2) Gloria Gaynor: I will survive

3) The carpenters: Yesterday once more

4) Frank Sinatra: I did it my way

5) Abba: Waterloo

and pass in on to the guy and the music store and get them to mix/record the songs in the tape for you.

Cool huh, there were no compact disc. There were no personal computers with a compact disc burner to burn songs into the disc. There were not digital music players back then.

The sweet nostalgic memories are flooding back now as I am writing this.....

This is what girls or boys will face in the dormitories in Malaysia Higher institution. I don't stay in dorms, but I rent a house once with guys as housemates. This is our horror stories.

wonder how some girls in this dorm can be so dirty & lazy - leaving solid food waste in the sink, not washing the oil stain they leave on the tap/sink, soaking clothes for days in the bathroom until it stinks, not flushing the toilet after using, basically not cleaning up after themselves. at home like that also kah? muka jak cantek( the face is pretty), hygiene fail -_-"

I got horror stories of my own too:

I got housemates that left plates onto the sink without washing them. I had the stinking job of washing it for them, when after I ate, even though I do not need to.

They don't clean up those food items that are long over due, inside the fridge( causing the refrigerator to stink)- I have the awesome job of clearing it up for them- AGAIN!!!!.

There is one thing I am weak at which is to clear rubbish/ clutter around the house. But common sense tells me to move my ass and take a few hours to clean it even when you mind and body tells you not to because your tired/lazy. Its your own health and also the well being of your other tenants. Just imagine what visitors will think of you when you are that messy and disgusting with your uncleanliness.

the boozes, the drugs and the cigarettes

There were 3 best friends. They will go anywhere and do things together. They all had their vices. Person A likes to take drugs and is very keen on it. Person B meanwhile likes to booze and the last person, Person C, likes to smoke tons of cigarette.

As they were walking together in the desert, they stumble upon a kettle and one of them gave it a rub and. out of nowhere, smoke starts billowing from the tip of the spout and from there forms a very menacing monster which turns out to be a genie.

The genie suddenly spoke, and it says," I am a genie and its my pleasure to inform each of you that you will get a wish. You can wish for anything that you want to, but be wise, as each of you would only get one wish each. The 3 friends was panicking at first, but it suddenly came into their realization that they could ask for anything that they wanted to. They ask for things according to their pleasure.

Person A asked of the genie, " I wish for the best drugs that you can get from around the world and put it in a cave and seal me in with it. Leave me alone for ten years and you shall open the cave after that!!". The genie heard this and with a nod of his head his wish got granted.
Person B meanwhile ask of the genie, " I wish that you could bring me the best types of alcohol that you can get and stuff it inside a cave and seal me in with it. Leave me there for ten years and only when that ten years have pass then you will open it. The genie heard this and with a nod of his head his wish got granted.
Person C meanwhile asked of the genie, " I wish for all the cigarette that this world can offer to me. Place it inside a cave and seal me in with it for ten years. Only after ten years then you will release me from this cave. The genie heard this and with a nod of his head his wish got granted.

After then years had passed, the genie came back to each of cave and open them as promised. He open the cave Person A was in. Not long after that out cam Person A looking sickly and gaunt looking from the comsumption of drugs. He couldn't barely work. Person A fell on the gravel road and died. After that the genie open the cave which Person B was in. Person B came out with an enormous beer belly. He walk carelessly and died shortly after that because of alcohol poisoning. Lastly, the genie open the last cave that Person C was in. To his surprise, person C look fresh and healthier then before. Person C walked towards the genie and give him a tight slap on the face and said:

"YOU BLOODY BUFFOON!!!IDIOT!!! SON OF A GUN!!!! YOU GAVE ME CIGARETTES BUT NO LIGHTER!!!!!!!"

Novel "Ombak Rindu" yang diterbitkan oleh Alaf 21 telah dicetak semula sebanyak 23 kali sejak tahun 2000, tetapi pemilihan adaptasi itu tidak boleh menjauhkan dirinya dari kontroversi.
Isu timbul apabila penulis novel "Ombak Rindu", Fauziah Ashari, nyata kecewa dengan pihak produksi kerana tidak memanggilnya untuk sama-sama menyertai produksi ini sebagai penasihat skrip hatta penulis skrip. Ini kerana selaku pemilik idea asal, mereka lebih mengetahui isi dan memahami jalan cerita novel itu sendiri.
Kini isu bayaran tidak setimpal pulak telah disuarakan oleh penulis novel yang mengatakan bahawa bayaran yang diterima cukup-cukup untuk tambang pergi dan balik dari Johor ke Kuala Lumpur dek kerana sokongan padu untuk filem "Ombak Rindu".
"Tiada apa yang tinggal," kata Fauziah lagi, " tiada sesen pun untuk saya kalau nak diikutkan bayaran yang diterima, tetapi perjanjian telah dibuat, sepatutnya pihak bertanggungjawab lebih prihatin tentang isu ini kerana apa yang diolah dari "Ombak Rindu" hampir kesemuanya adalah idea asal saya. Termasuk bait ayat yang disampaikan oleh Lisa Surihani, " Redha itu ikhlas, pasrah itu menyerah". Itu juga merupakan ayat yang ada di novel," ujar Fauziah.
"Nasihat sebagai penulis selepas ini kepada organisasi yang telus dalam menguruskan kewangan, adalah untuk adil dan saksama untuk kepentingan menjaga hak masing-masing. Apa jua yang ingin dilakukan yang melibatkan hasil ciptaan pihak lain, perlu dibincang dari akar umbi. Okay let me tell you what does the article says:
Apparently there is one novel which is very popular among the Malay reader here in Malaysia which is written by Malaysian novelist Fauziah Ashari title , "Ombak Rindu". The book got pick up and is adapted into a movie by Tarantella Production Sdn Bhd and has so far has grossed RM4 million in 4 days. The problem not only lies on the poor movie adaption but how the writer of the novel got left out during production of the film. She was not giving a proper say on what should be done with the movie.She was not even paid handsomely for her books even though the movie collected a substantial amount of money at the boxoffice. She said can't do much about it because she signed a deal earlier on even before the movie was made.
She goes on further to say that other that the organization should be more transparent in handling financial issues and to be fair and just to uphold the rights of everyone that is involve. She gave an example that producers from the west have given liberty and rights to novelist on par with other big names in the industry. This she says should be followed.

conclusion:

She totally got ripped and not been paid for what she truly deserves. I think whatever ideas that you have you shouldn't be giving it to someone so freely. At the end of the day is your work, your idea and creation.
When there is someone who wants to use your work, please get strong legal aid, because apparently this woman is stupid enough to be misled by greedy people such as the director and the entertainment company.
Don't just be in the entertainment and arts industry just because you want to be famous. Be ready to fight fight for it once people are trying to used them for their personal selfish gain, because honestly it's your work not theirs.

BUTTERWORTH: The Obedient Wives Club is set to stir up another controversy with a member here blaming women for husbands who indulge in illegal sexual relationships.

Hajiera Hartley said women who did not fulfil the sexual needs of their husbands caused the men to look for illicit affairs.

She said a survey carried out recently by the club showed that only 10% of Malay wives understood the sexual needs of their husbands.

“Most married Malay women are busy with domestic chores and ignore the sexual needs of their husbands.

“A sexually satisfied husband can lead to a harmonious family,” she told a press conference on the club’s War Against Illicit Sex campaign at the Global Ikhwan Sdn Bhd office in Lahar Yooi, near Tasek Gelugor, yesterday.

Hajiera said Islam teaches Muslim wives to offer themselves 100% to their husbands and advised women to dress attractively for their husbands.

Global Ikhwan, reportedly an off-shoot of the banned Al-Arqam movement, had set up the club to help “improve” wives.

I was eating at a Korean BBQ style eatery at a shopping mall for lunch with my friends. There was the coffee machine at the counter and as I was trying to get a cup of coffee. I notice there was no saucer cup and I ask one of the waitress. The waitress came to me with a peculiar request if I were insistent on getting it. She said, " If you want coffee please give back the plastic cup you are drinking from right now, and we will get it for you".

Not only was it weird for me, but the thought of having a coffee in a plastic cup is just nasty.

I would rather drink coffee from a plastic cup ifs is ice cold coffee instead of a brewed hot one.

Isn't it weird to drink a cup of hot coffee in a plastic cup. I think it is such a waste of a good coffee like that to drink it in a plastic cup. The taste will definitely be compromise once the hot beverage reacts to the plastic that holds it. Don't you think so?

And no, I decided not to get the coffee, eventually after that startling revelation.

Duck confit (French: confit de canard) is a French dish made with the leg of the duck. While it is made across France, it is seen as a speciality of Gascony. The confit is prepared in a centuries-old process of preservation that consists of salt curing a piece of meat (generally goose, duck, or pork) and then poaching it in its own fat.

To prepare a confit, the meat is rubbed with salt, garlic, and sometimes herbs such as thyme, then covered and refrigerated for up to 36 hours. Salt curing the meat acts as a preservative.

Prior to cooking, the spices are rinsed from the meat, which is then patted dry. The meat is placed in a cooking dish deep enough to contain the meat and the rendered fat, and placed in an oven at a low temperature (170 – 275 Fahrenheit/ 76 - 135 degrees Celsius). The meat is slowly poached at least until cooked, or until meltingly tender, generally four to ten hours.

The meat and fat are then removed from the oven and left to cool. When cool, the meat can be transferred to a canning jar or other container and completely submerged in the fat. A sealed jar of duck confit may be kept in the refrigerator for up to six months, or several weeks if kept in a reusable plastic container. To maximise preservation if canning, the fat should top the meat by at least one inch. The cooking fat acts as both a seal and preservative and results in a very rich taste. Skipping the salt curing stage greatly reduces the shelf life of the confit.

Confit is also sold in cans, which can be kept for several years. The flavourful fat from the confit may also be used in many other ways, as a frying medium for sautéed vegetables (e.g., green beans and garlic, wild or cultivated mushrooms), savory toasts, scrambled eggs or omelettes, and as an addition to shortcrust paste for tarts and quiches.

A classic recipe is to fry or grill the legs in a bit of the fat until they are well-browned and crisp, and use more of the fat to roast some potatoes and garlic as an accompaniment. The potatoes roasted in duck fat to accompany the crisped-up confit is called pommes de terre à la sarladaise. Another accompaniment is red cabbage slow-braised with apples and red wine.

Duck confit is also a traditional ingredient in many versions of cassoulet.
