42 years, and how are we doing?

to be noted: all word bold are the full names of those involved in the conversation. It is for privacy purposes and if you by any means know them please don't give them a hard time by harassing them.
What are you're opinion on this matter? What constitute a good economic report/progress?
Personally I think, 10 point of references to gauge an economic performance of a country is seriously not enough. If the government is transparent enough, they ought to show us more. It looks manipulated do you think so or maybe I am wrong? What do you think? Please comment on the comment section below this post.

MALAYSIA Airlines is to ban babies travelling in first class on the airline's new Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-400 fleet.
The airline said they have introduced the baby ban after receiving a number of complaints about crying infants from first class passengers, the Australia Business Traveller reports.
The airline has decided not to install bassinets in the first class cabin of its Boeing 747-400 fleet.

My opinion
I've been to a two hour flight and there were time when you just have to deal with it. What I don't like about this new ban is how bias and discriminating towards the business and economy class. Why not designate a place just for parents and their kids instead of the business and economy class suffering when they instead have to deal with crying babies.
It just doesn't make sense to me at all.

Mat rempit
-a local Malaysian slang given to a group of teenage boys who like to race illegally and dangerously at the streets during the night.
This is an issue that is in the hearts of many Malaysians since ages ago, and now it looks like this activity has taken into another shape and form, with is not called Mat Sikal( sikal from the word basikal in the Malay language which means bicycle)

MALACCA: They are young, ride 50kph on souped-up bicycles in groups and sometimes take part in races around the city on weekends for fun.
Taking a leaf from their more destructive cousins' the Mat Rempit, these teenage boys call themselves Mat Sikal.
A check by The Star yesterday showed that about 20 boys, with nicknames like Harges, KL Ties and Homage, were showing off their cycling skills in Jalan Penghulu Abas near the Malacca Court Complex in Ayer Keroh, Batu Berendam and Jonker Street.
Their antics caught the attention of many as they cycled at high speed on their altered racing bicycles with LED lights.
Some had loud horns to alert oncoming vehicles and pedestrians.

One member of the midnight cyclists, who wanted to be known only as Rahman, said most of them were still in school.
“We usually gather on weekends as we can stay up until the early hours of the morning.
“We cycle around the city in groups and sometimes we organise races among ourselves,” he said, adding that unlike Mat Rempit, they were not into criminal activities.
Rahman said most of the group members altered their bicycles by changing to lighter frames.
He said the drop handlebars were also positioned lower than the saddles so as to give the riders an aerodynamic posture.
“The wheels are changed, using smaller tyres to give the bike easy handling and to enable the rider to pedal at his optimum strength,” he said.
Rahman said the modified bicycles could attain a speed of about 50kph.
Members, he said, would save up on their pocket money to finance their hobby.
He said the races were organised between groups from different areas like Batu Berendam, Klebang and Semabok.
“We do it for fun,” said Rahman. “There are no prizes.”
Rahman admitted there were a few who aped Mat Rempit stunts such as the wheelie' and superman' during races.
He said the boys were mostly well-behaved and avoided being a public nuisance.
“Our parents don't mind when we stay up late as we are not involved in any criminal activity.”
Two things I don' agree is that the speed and in which the kids told the journalist that their parents don't mind them staying up late because they are not involved in any criminal activities. that is stupid on the parent's part because they are kids and why are the kids staying up so late to cycle/race dangerously at that kind of speed.
Parents, why on earth are you letting your kids do those things when you know they are a million other things which is more beneficial like playing soccer, going camping etc. I called this being idiotic and the highest level.

guys carries hangbags
SISSY ALERT!!!
I watched Rio with my sister a few week ago, and while we were waiting to go into the cinema's theater my sister noticed something and told me this," I don't know why some girls let/make their boyfriend or give in into their boyfriend's request to carry their handbag around. I would be quite embarrassed if her boyfriend carried on her behalf"
Her reason being is that, the guy will look sissy and she doesn't want to make her guy look sissy by carrying her bag is she is able to.
So boys and girls layout your points/arguement on the comment section below. Is it appropriate for guys to carry their girl's handbag?

The Interlok issue

A very heated debate happen earlier this month about a book name Intelok, written by National Laureate winner Abdullah Hussain. Earlier reports in the newspaper mention of a spat happening in the Indian community of Malaysia over the "P" word or known as Pariah, a derogatory term for an Indian person. That was what was reported in the newspaper of lately, but I think that is not the case at the moment.
In the Letters section of the News Straits Time dated 27th January 2011 an Indian lady wrote in and this was what she found when she reading the book. Presumably, she is a teachers in a school in Kuala Lumpur.

I thought the only issue was with the P-word. However, I would like to point out that there is more to it and it is totally degrading to the Indian community,
There have also been numerous instances when a certain books and drawings were deemed disrespectful to a majority of Malaysians and demonstrations were held. The offending books were then banned.
Why the double standard? Let me point out a few examples in Interlok that are bad for national unity.
"Maniam, seperti orang India yang lain, tidak pernah khuatir tentang keselamatan isterinya".( Page 218)
Does this mean Indian men do not care about their wives' safety?
the paragraph with the P-word is contained in this sentence: " Mereka yang dari arah ke utara sedikit bercakap Bahasa Malayalam atau Telugu, tetapi hampir semuanya tahu Bahasa Tamil. Malayalam dan Telugu pun berasal dari satu rumpum bahasa Dravidia. Satu perkara besar yang membuatkan mereka senang bergaul adalah kerana mereka tergolong dalam satu kasta....(the P-word)(Page 211)
Loosely translated, it means that the Indians in Malaysia can get along well with each another because they are all of the "p" caste.
So, does this mean they cannot get along well with the other races in Malaysia or even other Indians who are not from the same caste?

Is the esteemed author now comparing Indians to goats?
"Tidak makan tengah hari tidak mendatangkan masalah, asalkan dia dapat mengunyah sirihnya seperti lembu atau kambing memamah biak." (page 224)
Is this another comparison of an Indian to cows and goats?
"Dia gertak sahaja, orang kulit hitam ini tentu takut kecut," (page 253)p
Why the need to label Indians as dark skinned? Are all Indians this color? and why the need to talk about skin color at the first place?
"Dia berasa bangga kerana anjing orang putih itu jinak dengannya," (page 276)
Is the Indian man so low in his opinion of himself that he takes pride in the fact that the white man's dog is friendly towards him?

The two ends of the stick:
- Some defended the book saying it will cause healthy discussion and will avoid name calling after its being taught in the classes
- Some said it is accordance to the era mention in the book. In other words in was a normal occurrence back then.
- Some pointed out that this will alienate Indian students in school after this. Unproper name calling will start.
My thoughts:
- Was the name calling necessary in the book mentioned above necessary at the first place?
- Is the author some attention seeking person. Does he even get his facts right?Fellow Indian readers, enlighten me please.
- Will in help in promoting unity and harmony and uplifting the 1Malaysia concept. I am afraid it will not be like that if the teachers who taught this doesn't tell about the improperness of the derogatory terms used in the novel. I think name calling will start if is not handled well. So in conclusion, not really a good choice at all all.

the case of bad body odour

How to strike a balance between telling that person without offending him or her that she or he has bad body odour?
I have my shared of people telling me that I smell bad sometimes, and I improved tremendously since then. Sometimes it situations where you had a long day with no spare of fresh clothing or in the most extreme of cases, just don't bother to keep the good hygiene practices up. Some people do sweat a lot and this cause problems too. I do bath a lot and the problem with me at times is, I spend long hours outside the house and I sweat a lot especially if the weather is searing hot
