movie review: Kung Fu Panda 2

This time sees Po and his comrades join forces in preventing Lord Shen, in destroying Kung Fu and China. In order to do so, they need to travel far  away to Gongmen City. In the process of trying to defeat Lord Shen, Po is confronted with his past and has to find his inner peace.
Virtually everything was intact here. The funny factor was a few notch down from the first, but it is still funny as mad. The fight sequences are as good as always if not on par with the previous one. The plot is respectable enough and is very enjoyable still.
A good movie to watch.

So good you need to buy it from it's source...

I get funny reactions for a face of shocking disbelief or a nod. Or a cynical or remark when I tell my friend here in Peninsular Malaysia that:

"THERE ARE NO BAKERIES OR SHOPS OR HYPERMARKET THAT SALES GARDENIA BREADS OR GARDENIA RELATED PRODUCTS".

My all time favourite from Gardenia, Butterscotch

Why there are no sales of this Product back in Sarawak. It is because of a few reason that is if a Gardenia factory are station in Sarawak, the whole bakery network will collapsed under the tremendous deliciousness of the breads/buns etc. In other word, Gardenia bread will monopolize and the bakeries that are scattered around Sarawak will close because they can't compete with Gardenia.

So it is a truth not fiction and don't go wondering why Sarawakians love to bring loafs and loafs and Gardenia bread back home next time when you are at the airports.

The French Open 2011: in retrospect

Rafael Nadal prepares to receive Roger Federer...Image via Wikipedia
written by Sullivan Alex Tan

Said to be one of the hardest tennis tournament to win, the French Open is where warriors of the game show their determination to win, to persevere and to show determination. Throughout it's glorious history, the French Open has seen many players of past and present fighting to reach one of the pinnacles of tennis greatness, that is to win a Grand Slam event.
In order to win this even, a player has to go grueling and torrid condition( and especially  the body) as the famous red clay of  Roland Garros will indicate the fitness and also the determination of the player. A player which personifies such qualities is none other than Spain's Rafael Nadal, from Mallorca. With the determination such as Nadal, it is no wonder he is called by his peers and tennis greats alike as the 'The King Of Clay'. With his swooping forehand and tenacious energy, he has won five times and  is gunning for a record equaling sixth French Open title set by Bjorn Bork from Sweden in the Open era.
The French Open also provides us with a fairytale ending of sorts to player who had journey through this tournament in multiples of defeats, and a player that fits this mold so badly is none other than the maestro himself, Roger Federer. His winning-less streak in the final dates back from the year 2006-2008. Time after time the genius of the tennis world looks second best against the maestro of clay which comes in the form of Rafael Nadal. Tennis bookies and fans alike begin to wonder if Federer can break the jinx of another legend which is Pete Sampras, which won multiple Slams on other surfaces, excluding the French Open. With unwavering resolution, he finally break the duck on the 2009 season when he won the French Open to seal a career grand slam. It was a like royal wedding ending  of sorts to the millions of people around that watched the final. The win was a bitter sweet moment and also a silencer as well to all that doubt the ability of Roger to win on the red dirt.
When reaching sports excellence, there is heartaches too. A good example of this is becoming second fiddle to an opponent in a final at the French Open. Robin Soderling has come second in both occasion back in 2009 and 2010. En route in shocking  defending champion Rafael Nadal in the 2009 tournament in the fourth round, the Swede manage to nudge himself into the final and is pitted against Roger Federer. Sad to say he lost that final is straights sets 6-1, 7-6, 6-4. In 2010, meanwhile Robin Soderling reached a back to back final but lost to Rafael Nadal also in straights sets 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.
Being in a part of a prestigious tennis event would be a dream for many that played the sports. When one talks about having history and an air of prestigiousness, the French Open is not far from that. Known as the Internationaux de France back in 1891, alot have been change to the format of the game from the knockout format; to best of three sets from til 1902' 1903 and the introduction of the best of five sets afterwards . The winner of the men's singles will receive a replica silver gilt Coupe des Mousquetaires ( in honouring the 4 great musketeers of French Tennis: Jean Borotra, Jacques Brugnon, Henri Cochet and Rene Lacoste) and in 2010  the winner received a total prize money of $1.5 million upping the amount of last year winner's prize money to reflect the changes in the economy and for the benefit of the players.
During its time on earth the French Open has proven itself that it can adapt to changes and be part of one of the most exciting tennis tournaments in the world. It's brings forth a uniqueness in the game and excitement to it like no other tennis tournament does. When we define what is the French Open words such as "determination/guts/grittiness/ fitness and mental toughness" will come into our minds. That is what is so special about this tournament.Enhanced by Zemanta

movie review: Pirates of the Caribbean 4

this fourth installment see Captain Jack Sparrow on a mission to find the Fountain of Youth with Angelica ( the past flame) and also the intimidating Blackbeard.
To be honest, it was quite a tiresome movie to watch, full of unnecessary plots( zombies and mermaids character). Quite a self indulgence movie, in other words, it was made for the sake of making more money and in turn ignoring what is fun on the previous installments. I even find Captain Jake Sparrow less energetic and free will as before and Angelica is such a pain in the ass.
So please ditch the movie, for that amount of time I could have waited and watched something else more fun. A good movie is when you come out from the cinema thinking/analising/having a conversation or having a big smile because you had fun or feeling that you are invested in the story. This movie didn't do anything for me. It plain and nothing to shout about!!

Atomic bombs and such did stop the invasion of the Japanese. Some says it keeps peace? But at the expense of innocent lives?I don't think so!!!.

What do you think of war and atomic bombs in general? Tell me at the comment section below.

rempits now sikals

Mat rempit
-a local Malaysian slang given to a group of teenage boys who like to race illegally and dangerously at the streets during the night.

This is an issue that is in the hearts of many Malaysians since ages ago, and now it looks like this activity has taken into another shape and form, with is not called Mat Sikal( sikal from the word basikal in the Malay language which means bicycle)

taken from the Star newspaper.

First Mat Rempit, now Mat Sikal
By R.S.N. MURALI

MALACCA: They are young, ride 50kph on souped-up bicycles in groups and sometimes take part in races around the city on weekends for fun.

Taking a leaf from their more destructive cousins' the Mat Rempit, these teenage boys call themselves Mat Sikal.

A check by The Star yesterday showed that about 20 boys, with nicknames like Harges, KL Ties and Homage, were showing off their cycling skills in Jalan Penghulu Abas near the Malacca Court Complex in Ayer Keroh, Batu Berendam and Jonker Street.

Their antics caught the attention of many as they cycled at high speed on their altered racing bicycles with LED lights.

Some had loud horns to alert oncoming vehicles and pedestrians.

Riding for a fall?: A group of midnight cyclists riding around Kota Laksamana in Malacca on Saturday night.

One member of the midnight cyclists, who wanted to be known only as Rahman, said most of them were still in school.

“We usually gather on weekends as we can stay up until the early hours of the morning.

“We cycle around the city in groups and sometimes we organise races among ourselves,” he said, adding that unlike Mat Rempit, they were not into criminal activities.

Rahman said most of the group members altered their bicycles by changing to lighter frames.

He said the drop handlebars were also positioned lower than the saddles so as to give the riders an aerodynamic posture.

“The wheels are changed, using smaller tyres to give the bike easy handling and to enable the rider to pedal at his optimum strength,” he said.

Rahman said the modified bicycles could attain a speed of about
50kph.

Members, he said, would save up on their pocket money to finance their hobby.

He said the races were organised between groups from different areas like Batu Berendam, Klebang and Semabok.

“We do it for fun,” said Rahman. “There are no prizes.”

Rahman admitted there were a few who aped Mat Rempit stunts such as the wheelie' and superman' during races.

He said the boys were mostly well-behaved and avoided being a public nuisance.

Our parents don't mind when we stay up late as we are not involved in any criminal activity.”

Two things I don' agree is that the speed and in which the kids told the journalist that their parents don't mind them staying up late because they are not involved in any criminal activities. that is stupid on the parent's part because they are kids and why are the kids staying up so late to cycle/race dangerously at that kind of speed.
Parents, why on earth are you letting your kids do those things when you know they are a million other things which is more beneficial like playing soccer, going camping etc. I called this being idiotic and the highest level.

guys carries hangbags

SISSY ALERT!!!

I watched Rio with my sister a few week ago, and while we were waiting to go into the cinema's theater my sister noticed something and told me this," I don't know why some girls let/make their boyfriend or give in into their boyfriend's request to carry their handbag around. I would be quite embarrassed if her boyfriend carried on her  behalf"

Her reason being is that, the guy will look sissy and she doesn't want to make her guy look sissy by carrying her bag is she  is able to.

So boys and girls layout your points/arguement on the comment section below. Is it appropriate for guys to carry their girl's handbag?

movie review: fast five and thor.

FAST FIVE ( ALTERNATIVELY KNOWN AS FAST AND FURIOUS FIVE/ FAST AND FURIOUS FIVE: RIO HEIST)

more action less car reference and culture this time around. This fifth movie of this car reeling movie, brings back the usual speedsters mainly, Dominic "Dom" Toretto (Vin Diesel), Mia Toretto ( Jordana Brewster) and Brian O' Conner ( Paul Walker). The movie starts with Dom being sentence to 25 years to prison without early parole. On the way to prison, in the bus, Brian, Mia and a friend of Dom decided to lead an assault on the bus and that cause the bus to crash, freeing Dom. In escaping the authorities, Brian and Mia decides to flee to Rio de Jeneiro, while waiting for Dom there.
One thing led to another, Dom, Brian and the rest of the team decides to steal $100 million dollar from Brazil's most notorious criminal king pin, Hernan Reyes ( Joaquim de Almeida). So literally everything goes havoc from then on.
What I like about this movie is that I swerves from the normal formula this movie offers which is cars and racing. The big difference was the big run away scene at downtown Rio and the brawl between Vin Diesel and the Dwayne Johnson. That for me is a breath of fresh air, as far as movie franchises go. Overall, its a fun movie and good precursor to upcoming summer blockbuster movies. rating: 7.5/10

THOR.

The movie is taken from the comic book with the same name from Marvel Comics. I don't really know much about Thor and the comics, except for the cape and shield and that big hammer. All, I know, it was a fun movie, girls would definately love it( ahemm!!!) and comic fans will enjoy it too. I know I did. This movie has a simple premise to it and it was not as complicated as other superhero comic movies adaption. I think overall this movie has the potential to develop into something more substantial. I say this is not a bad movie nor and excellent movie to watch. Another precursor to upcoming summer blockbuster movies to come. rating: 7/10

it scares the sheet outta me!!!

I think after 25 years on earth. I still can't get over one thing everytime I tuck into bed at night.

"I can't seem to comtemplate the idea of opening the room door while being asleep"

" It scares the SHEET outta me"

So the question of the day is:
Would you prefer sleeping in the room with the door close or vice versa???

the hot poem

This poem is dedicated to the hot weather this pass few days, and here it goes

Every morning, the sun gleaming,
the rays shine through the glass paneling,
I cringe and I start saying,
ice-cream sales will surely be increasing.

When it gets this hot, my tongue will go panting,
My mind starts panicking,
the water level starts trickling,
from the pores of my skin.

this hot weather is depressing,
makes me want to go bathing
but it's comes down to nothing,
when you start sweating.

there is no way to express this hotness,
can be shown with a smirk,
No point in making a fuss,
Cos life is to short, so don't be a jerk.

coming back one round circle

Recently:
Heavy school bags were one of the issues in the late 90s. (and the issue never seems to go away)
There was the issue of abolition of UPSR examinations and it cause quite a ruckus

The education ministry went back and forth with the issue of what should be the main language use in teaching the main subjects such as maths and sciences subject in school. It's never ending, and I am so glad I didn't have to suffer like this. They ought to pity those school kids.

I think I have the solution:
Why not make English the main subject in schools across Malaysia, but make the Malay Language a compulsory subject to pass( for example to get a school leaving certificate you need to get at least 60 marks or higher) or else there is not way your going to graduate from High school. It's killing to birds in one stone. We will get super highly awesome students who are highly proficient in the English language, while the learning and usage of the Malay Language is still uphold. No/yes?.
For goodness sake, I think its high time the government channel some good amount of money to train and developed well skilled teachers and also pay them higher salary. Mr Prime Minister. Can you give them some pity?
