Overall the public was very positive about the new ruling, citing safety as their reason to backup the government's decision of the wearing the seatbelt ruling.
The important question though is how those low income people with a lot of child going to fit into
this policy. I wonder?? With this new policy now, only 3 passengers are allowed to be in the car, two behind and one on the front passenger seat. So let's say a family with 4 children. How on earth they are going to fit into the car with the new policy. Are those people going to be scott free from paying up fines just because that is the only car they can affort to buy and that is the only mode of transport the parents can go around with their kids? How about those people that have old cars without seatbelts on the passenger seats ?They really cannot afford to put in the seatbelts because of their low disposable income. Will they be fined for not having seatbelts behind their car?
So at the end of the day, they should have different kinds of policy or different kinds of law for every different situation regarding this new seatbelt ruling. The propose fine of RM2000 beginning 1st of July 2009 is extremely harsh in my opinion. What do you think?

old vehicles registered before 1995 (i think its 1995, not too sure) are exempted.
And proton (and peroduas? <- not sure abt peroduas, but i assume so)cars that were registered after this year, but are not fitted with rear seatbelts were given a grace period to be installed with rear seatbelts for FREE.
So that sorta clears most of the poor people thingy. (pretty much if you're poor u'd either be driving really old cars or a proton or perodua rite? :P)
And you forgot the middle rear seat. so u still can fit 4 passengers la. 3 behind and 1 in front. :)
thanks for the clearing up of stuff ...clears up a lot of stuff ...whee !
malaysia boleh....
and if im not wrong, the 4th rear passenger (without belts) will not be saman-ed.
aaron. Really, that would save the wasted space if that really happens
You're not supposed to bring that many people in a car in the first place.
yeahlah ...those can afford only one car ...ada banyak anak anak macam mana ..lol a
What does having anak banyak got to do with breaking the law?
The law is there to safeguard your family's safety. Just for the sake of going out together-gether and doing it in a convenient way, you'd risk the life of your kids?
There's always a choice to plan one's outing earlier and taking public transportation.
Or perhaps you'd prefer that when one has an accident (touchwood), to see one's kid(s) fly out the window and ended up on the streets and not enough with that, afterward getting ran over by another car.
yeah that's a cool idea
just as long as everybody wear their waistbelt
i think the police will pass you @ their roadblocks
its also ok if you wear fake leather belt, but as long as you buy them from Petaling Street, that is ok
or else fine rm300
kee weng, I am not surprise with your zanny ideas. Tell that to Mr transport minister
