Review:
The movie is well paced throughout. The beautiful cinematography is quite a treat to the eyes. You will feel as if you are watching a National Geo Wild documentary. The acting from all of the actors are commendable and is very believable, except for the Ah Bee and Benji dynamic. The director could throw in more confrontational situations and stretch their scenes a little bit more to make their relationship more believable.
Overall good story-line that emphasizes on the importance of family, tradition, respect and friendship. A movie for all.

Review:
 My inner child was unleash when I was watching the movie in the cinema. I have to say the movie is quite frantic borderline on manic, but the funny gags and one to punch liners are the saving grace. Not only that, the movie is well crafted, beautiful and vibrant. Highly recommended

Random MOvie Review: Despicable Me 2 and Pacific Rim

 

 Easily the best animation of the year. This time Gru is recruited by the Anti Villain Organization to track down a crook who stole a serum that will create an end time to the world so to speak. As usual the antics are plenty and the cuteness never enough, added with a tummy ache because of the absurd hilarity throughout the duration of the movie. I promise you that you will have a good time at the cinema.

Those who are into robots and monster will dig this movie. The big action pieces are relentless and so is the devastation. Seeing the robots taking a beating by the monsters and vice versa is fun to watch. The  The storyline could be beefed up a little bit considering the movie had a 2 hour duration time. So if you are into the robot versus monster movie with a decent amount of story in it and not expecting a heck lot from it, then Pacific Rim is your movie.

Random Movie Review: World War Z & Monster's University

For a person who occasionally watches zombie flicks, World War Z in my opinion entertaining and is a interesting departure from the normal zombie movies (imagine hacking with saws, axes and crowbars). I like how the movie tries to get into the aspect of the world's population way of coping in an apocalyptic end of the world situation. The zombies are sufficiently scary and at times makes your blood want to curdle. The scares are scarce and when they do come, it is enough to give you the thrills and spills. It is a good enough movie and for what problems the movie had in production, it does a decent job at  providing good time at the cinema.

It tells the story of Michael "Mike" Wazowski and James P. "Sulley" Sullivan friendship during their university years at the prestigious Monster University.
Before delving into the movie, I was asking this question,  How to make a movie as charming as possible at a university setting. After all, Pixar's ingredients of  making a sure fire animation hit, would be a concoction of charming, nostalgic, fun, and beautiful crafted in the technical aspect.
Sadly, they aced the technical part of the movie, but not the story. In the 103 minutes of watching the entire movie, was seated to a very uninspiring seen it before story of finding one owns identity from the perspective of frat brothers and sorority sisters moments of stupidities at campus minus the gross out gags and pop culture reference. That itself had devoid  the movie with a sentimentality and charming sensibility from the first movie back in 2001.
Overall, the kids would love it but adults will  find Monsters University flat and ordinary. I know I did.

Movie Review: The Hobbit

The last time we saw the adventures of the hobbit and the ring that binds them all was back in 2003, when the final installment of the Lord of the Ring trilogy was release. Fast forward nine years later, the prequel to movies is release to the general audience. The movie is an adaption from a novel written by J.R.R Tolkien, The Hobbit.


Plot

On his 111th birthday, the hobbit Bilbo Baggins decides to write down the full story of the adventure he took 60 years before for his nephew Frodo. Bilbo writes about how, prior to his own actual involvement, the Dwarf Thrór becomes King of Erebor and brings an era of prosperity to his kin until the arrival of Smaug the dragon. Drawn by the amount of gold that the Dwarves have amassed, Smaug destroys the nearby town of Dale before driving the Dwarves out of Erebor. Thrór's grandson, Thorin, sees King Thranduil and his Wood-elves on a nearby hillside and is dismayed to find them taking their leave rather than aiding his people.
Following this, Bilbo is tricked by the wizard, Gandalf the Grey, into hosting a party for Thorin and his band of Dwarves, which doubles as Bilbo's recruitment as the Dwarves' "burglar" to help them steal their treasure back from Smaug. Bilbo reluctantly joins the company on their journey to the Lonely Mountain.

Verdict:
Peter Jackson has an affinity for making movies that are of good quality and entertaining at the same time. He is meticulous in his craft and this movie is no exception. Even though My tush was getting warmer faster then the fist part of the movie.  As we go into the movie after good one hour or so, things starts picking up from there.  but sadly was a little flat at the end because of the supposed continuation of second and third part according to the books.
Maybe things will pick up from the second and third installments of the film, being the desolation of Smaug and There and Back again out in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
Is this a respectable film to watch. My call? It is. Was the movie entertaining? Yes it was. Was the duration of the movie necessary? It could have been more compact and straight to the point.

Random Movie Review: Life of PI

Verdict:
A beautiful crafted movie throughout. A deep thought provoking movie. From the beginning till the end, the film explores religious themes, folklore and whimsical situations that are part mesmerizing and also equally exciting. A very highly recommended movie to watch.

Random movie review: Moonrise Kingdom

This movie is made by American director Wes Anderson with movies such as The Royal Tenenbaums (2001),  and The Darjeeling Limited (2007).


Plot
Set in the idyllic New England called New Penzance in 1965, it tells the story of 12 year old Sam Shakusky who in khaki scout but is an outcast among his fellow khaki scout mates. Meanwhile Suzy Bishop lives with her attorney parents on the island as well. Sam and Suzy met the previous summer during a church theater performance. After that, they decided to stay friends by writing to each other for more than a year. During those time that they wrote letters to each other, they decided to run away, thus, creates chaos and a frantic search for them in the island itself.

Verdict
The movie is a throwback to the era. The  film is centers a very simple premise of young love and the challenges face by them. In between dialogues and quirky scenes makes this film a fun movie to watch.

Random movie review: Skyfall

The 23rd film in the franchise, Skyfall is directed by Sam Mendes, the Academy Award winning director  with A beautiful life. which earned him Best Director, Road to Perdition and Oliver to name a few.

The Plot.
MI6 agents James Bond and Eve assist on a mission in Turkey to recover a computer hard drive stolen from a murdered MI6 agent that contains details of almost all undercover NATO agents in terrorist organisations. Bond and Eve chase the killer, mercenary Patrice, and attempt to recover the disk. During the chase, Bond is shot in the shoulder. While fighting Patrice, Bond is accidentally shot by Eve and is later considered "missing, presumed killed".
The head of MI6, M, comes under political pressure to retire during a meeting with the Intelligence and Security Committee Chairman, Gareth Mallory. On her return from the meeting, MI6 is hacked and an explosion occurs in the offices, killing eight MI6 employees. Bond, having used his supposed death to retire, learns of the attack and returns to London. Shrapnel taken from his earlier shoulder wound helps identify Patrice, and Bond tracks the mercenary to Shanghai.

Verdict
From the first few minutes of the movie where a blur silhouette of Bond slowly emerges and as he approaches apprehensively as if someone is going to shoot him, he stops to look around and not long after that, a streak of light shines across his eyes. That scene was particularly an intense opening for a movie and it was roughly like a teaser for you to expect great things ahead for the next 2 hours and 23 minutes ofscreening time. Daniel Craig never fails as the suave James Bond. As usual, he brings down the villains with ease. Throughout the movie, you can sense the easiness of Daniel Craig into his roll as 007. His smug and tough, so cool and collective. He fights and fights, for his life and also for the organization he believes in. I believe that this is the best Bond movie is because of the rich back stories presented it it and superb acting abilities from Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench. It no ordinary off the mill, James Bond. The typically cliche plot of gun shooting, casual sex escapades of Bond with his girls and the maniacal villain who wants to get total control and power by nuclear power technologies or gun rays and so on. Skyfall is the real deal, raw, visceral and full of vulnerable energy. Nevertheless Javier Bardem is also an excellent actor in this movie. So deliciously creepy.
It's classic James Bond movie that you should really watch. Its a movie for old and new fans of the franchise.

Movie review: Ted and Frankenweenie

Ted is the first directorial debut by Seth MacFarlene, the creator of Family Guy. It is about how a boy, John Bennett, wishes they he has a best friend and wish for one under a wishing star during one fateful Christmas in 1985. He got a stuff teddy bear and got a talking walking one instead after wishing for it. Since then they became inseparable . Problems arose when John is all grown up and is in a relationship with the love of her life for four years, Lori Collins, acted by Mila Kunis. Hilarious incidents happens throughout the movie.
Overall it was a fun movie to watch. Mark Wahlberg was just perfect for the role of John Bennett, the washout man who just likes to run away from responsibility. The relationship between Ted and John is quite comical, especially when they broke into a fight
It an outright fun movie. If you like a movie for the sake of just watching and want a lighthearted fun out of it, then Ted  is your movie.

Victor Frankenstein lives with his dog and his parents in the sleepy town of New Holland. He is sort of a social outcast, focusing so much on making movies and loving science. Worried about his social life, Victor's father encourages him to take baseball. During his first time at baseball, he hit a home run. Sparky who love to play fetch ran after the ball and got hit by a car when trying to retrieve it back to Victor. Intrigued by a science lesson taught by the eccentric but wise Mr Rzykruski, Victor reanimate Sparky with the help of a lightning storm. Slowly but surely, mayhem ensues.
Tim Burton is known for his quirky and macabre sensibility when crafting his movies. Frankenweenie was no exception. Beautiful crafted and haunting at the same time.
Sadly the downfall of this movie is that it a story that has been told so many time. The science freak creates a monster just like this version except that it is a reanimated dog. The saving grace was the sweet relationship between a boy and his beloved dog and of course the beautifully crafted animation.

Movie Review: The Dark Knight Rises

The third and last installment of the Batman franchise sees Batman living in exile after being branded master criminal in causing the death of Harvey Dent. Bruce becomes a recluse because of that. Eventually his empire, Wayne Enterprise is slowly in shambles and in internal turmoil is magnify by the arrival of Bane, a muscle bound evil entity  that is going to destroy the very city that Batman tries to save.
There is so much at stake in the movie. The prevalence of of victory and hope can only happen from adversity and calamity.The movies delves into those issues very intimately
Christopher Nolan's story are usually a slow burner, and Dark Knight Rises is not much different. Clocking at 164 minutes, the movie can get pretty tiresome. Watching a Christopher Nolan movie is like being on a tight rope. You need to stay sharp and focus and when you reach at the end its totally satisfying knowing that you took the plunge and reach the end. The main plot and the subplots are so intense that it keeps you thinking hard about it even after you have walked out of the cinema hall.
Overall it a satisfying movie. Christopher Nolan proves that he is a good storyteller. In this movie he is damn good at it. A brutal, honest ending to a trilogy under the helm of one of the most gifted director in the movie industry in my opinion.

Movie review: Spiderman Reboot & Vampire hunter

The Amazing Spiderman

A lot of people have been bashing this movie before it even came out. Most of it stem from the fact that most fans of the previous spiderman movie felt that Tobey Mcguire is the quintessential super web hero.
It got the same backlash when Daniel Craig land the role of 007, in Casino Royale, only to get glowing reviews and having it to be the highest grossing James Bond movie ever. In this case, I felt that Andrew Garfield did a better job in the acting department. He oozes angst and dopey coolness with an assured confidence that Tobey didn't not. It is Garfield's chemistry and Emma's that really stood out in this reboot that also gets the thumbs up from me. The fight sequences in this one was good but not as interesting as the second and third installment and nothing new in the story. At the end of the day it is a satisfying superhero movie, nothing spectacular about it.

Abraham Lincoln: The vampire hunter

I love how to mix and mash the story of President Abe Lincoln before he became the President of the United States and that of the story of vampires and how also he fought for slaves during that period. What was clearly lacking in this movie was that the stories in it seems out of focus and seem to is easily compare to a bunny on drugs, hopping around frantically. There was no emotional depth in the characters. They will just have a few chit chats with you and they will be out of there in a minute.

The saving grace of this movie was the out of the box storyline involving history (not accurate one at all) and vampires. What cause this movie to be not great is it's hectic pacing, the lack of depth and story in its characters. So overall, its not a good nor a bad movie.

Movie Review: Madagascar 3, Europe most wanted

The last time we saw Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman there were at Africa. The penguins left them for Monoco for the life and being rich and famous. Hating the mundane life of Africa, Alex coaxed the rest of the gang to go to Monoco and to kidnap the penguins so that they can fly them back to New York Zoo.
They manage to locate the penguins, but as usual, they created chaos. This roused the interest of  diabolical, and coldblooded Captain  Chantel DuBois of Animal Control who wants Alex's head for her own collection. To avoid being killed, the gang decides to blend in with a circus troupe to run away from Dubois, with hilarious consequences.
Overall when watching the movie, I enjoyed it very much and had a hard time containing my funny bones. The animation was beautifully done. Most importantly, the funny and naughty antics of the characters are still intact. You will definitely will have a cracker lacking good time..

Movie Review: Dark Shadow

Based on the popular show which aired on ABC television network from June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971. Dark Shadow stars Johny Depp as Barnabas Collins the son of a wealthy family from Liverpool, England, who with his family set sail to the  fishing port  of Maine, which was then the New World, North America- to expand their empire. The Collins family got very wealthy and was so successful that they named the fishing port Collinsport and build a manor for themselves,  called The Collinwood  Manor. Barnabas grew up to be a flirtatious playboy and in the process broke the heart of a witch which is also the family's servant, Angelique Bouchard. In a fit a jealously, she cursed Barnabas to be a vampire and puts a spell on Josette which forces her to jump of a cliff. She also convinces the towns-folks that he is a vampire. He is capture, chained up and buried in a coffin in the woods alive. After being accidentally release after almost two decades, Barnabas returns to Collinwood Manor to right the wrong.
I didn't expect anything much from this movie as I was not even born yet during the airing of the soap opera. So I didn't have any preconceived ideas or expectations when the film start rolling. Johnny Depp's  quirky sensibility always shines through and his character Barnabas is no exception. The movie itself is not campy in a way that will leave the audience feeling awkward
I heard that the original television soap show was a dark one. I am really glad that this version is a little light with  subtle jokes here and there to ease the seriousness. Maybe because of that, it took away a little bit of the dark, spookiness, and mysterious undertones of previous films directed by Tim Burton. I feel in this movie he could utilized further such elements to make the film more effective.
Overall, it's a good  watchable movie. As usual the standout actor in the movie is Johnny Depp.

Movie review: The Avengers

 the first show at 12.05

the sizable crown gathering at about 11.30pm yesterday.

I don't know what possess me to get the 12.05 am show. Maybe its the fanboy in me or I am just following the hype. As  you all know the Avenger  is a team assembled by Nick Fury to fend of evil forces that no man can withhold on earth. Loki the half brother of Thor decided to seek revenge and summon an army to destroy earth and reign as the supreme being on earth.
All of the superhero movies so far have a cliche plot, but what I really like about this movie is that mostly all the characters have  back stories, you get to know them even more. There are time when it gets quite draggy and tired, but it gives depth to the character-it's not just a big explosion, and big set pieces involving battle sequences.
Apart from that, the comic timing was excellent, providing relief to the already tense problems the heroes are facing. The icing on the cake goes to the hulk a.k.a Bruce Banner for being the funniest. Minus points  goes to the way the superhero end the war. Why didn't Loki give specific instructions not to build a safety mechanism. Seem so highly illogical looking at the circumstances of things and sadly Hawkeye is seriously underused in the movie.
Well put that one flaw aside, The Avenger is an awesome must see movie this year. I kid you not peeps.

Movie Review: Battleship

Based on the classic Hasbro naval combat game, Battleship is the story of an international fleet of ships who come across an alien armada whilst on a Naval war games exercise. An intense battle ensues over sea, land and air. What do they aliens - known as 'The Regents' - want?
I think its the trend now is to make bigger special effect laden movies. In the midst of doing so plausibility and fluidity of a movie is often neglected. There is not much of a difference for a big budget movie such as this.Taylor Kitsch as the rebel in this movie and in entrusted with leading the naval fleet after his older brother played by Alexander Skarsgard died while trying to destroy the mother alien ship.
The movie is loud and brash and with some serious issue of laughable scenarios. I will not spoil the movie for you but if you go watched it you will roll your eye quite a few times.
The movie is loud and brash, never holds back when it comes to entertaining movie goers. A typical summer pop corn movie.

Movie reviews: the Lorax and The hunger games

From the producer who brought you Despicable Me and from Dr.Seuss' children's book of the same name. comes a story about a boy name Ted Wiggins who lives in Thneed-ville, a walled up city that is filled with artificial products, like trees, cars etc. One day the girl of his dreams told him about her desire to see a tree. To fulfil her dreams of seeing one,Ted ventures outside of the protected walls of the town to meet Once'ler on the matter, after a suggestion from his grandma. Slowly but surely Ted discover a sad truth behind the non-existent of  trees around the neighbourhood. Thus, begins Ted's quest to correct the wrong that has been done to nature.
Overall the movie was enjoyable to watch. Fun is in the vocabulary when you watched any of Dr. Seuss creation. In this animated movie, the whimsical and the crazy are merged into one.There is something fun about bears and fishes prancing around and a bunch of characters doing a dance number with loony music to accompany the craziness.
The story for this movie is pretty straightforward.So there is nothing to shout about.
Not a stellar movie but a fun one to watch.

Another movie adaption and this time from Suzanne Collins's books. The hunger games depicts America after a post apocalyptic stage after the war. In order to control the rebelliousness, two kids from each of the thirteen district is send to a battle of honor called The Hunger Games where the one  who remains as the last remaining person on the game will be declared the victor. Katnis Everdeena tribute from Sector  12 volunteered after her younger sister was called out to be one.
Overall the movie was okay. I mean I don't read the books, so my expectations were pretty low for the movie. The performance of the lead heroine in this movie, which was portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence was powerful and really left and impression on me. I was smitten by her in the movie Winter's Bone. She was the second youngest ever nominee for Best Actress in a leading role in that movie. She was no exception in this movie. I think it is safe to say that without her, they will be not Katniss in the film adaption of the book.
The movie has it fair share of sci-fi intrigue but without the patchy and sometimes cheesy storyline of some recent sci-fi box office bombed from a certain mouse company( If you get my drift there).  It was a fluid movie albeit the slow moving middle section. If you are that kind that can seat for a few hours in a cinema than it is for you, if you like a movie that which is face paced an energetic that it would be a hard movie to watch.
Sometimes when you have to do something to survive, what would you do to be on top of the game?

Random movie review: The darkest hour

Watching the darkest hour is like walking somewhere aimlessly and without any directions.
The concept of the story is so week, the character doesn't have the chance to develop. The characters are characters that you will not have feelings or invest on. You won't go, " Run dude!! Run, don't die!!". The plot in this movie is so thin and some scenes are ridiculous that it will make you laugh out loud. I don't feel the characters are going through a dark and bleak situation-not sense of suspense. The scenarios that  are played out are to coincidental to be true.
I love science fiction movies, and I could say that World of the World make this movie look even more stupider.

A colorful and vibrant film, set upon the beautiful country of Rio De Jeneiro, Brazil. This animated full length adventure gets the thumbs up from me and is on this list because it cleverly incorporates all the necessary elements needed to make something that the movie goers would like, good music, great humor and  most important off all, a heartwarming story.

Best heist/caper movie

Fast five

The movie drove away from its previous plot which is fast cars and more fast cars with an introduction of money heist plot. The fun part of the movie was the big set piece involving a rampaging vault  that ran havoc through the busy town of rio. (watch the movie if you want to know more about it)

The rat pack is on the prowl again for trouble and this time that trouble comes in the city of Bangkok. Watched as the gang snake their way out of trouble and into another. It's just a feel good and fun movie to see with your buddies.

My verdict? It was and amazing and satisfying end to one of the most beloved literature work in human history.

Best superhero film

When I first heard about this movie in its preproduction stage, I was so afraid that it is going to be another fight between good vs evil and how the mutants have a hard time coexisting with the human race. This movie is totally the opposite as it explain exactly how Professor X and Magneto became arch enemies because of their different philosophy in using ther mutant powers. I can really relate to this movie as we ourselves struggle when we attain power.

Captain America

 Simple story of an American boy wanting to contribute to society and got his which as he was enlisted in a special unit of the army. He turned into this buff superhero called Captain America. Hugo Weaving is superbly menacing at the villain Red Skull.

Not so there yet films

Thor

It could went downhill, but this movie is nevertheless fun too watch. I felt that the ending finish abruptly and could be better. Maybe better the next time?

Worst movie of 2011

Uninspiring, with a senseless plot and storyline. This movie proves that Michael Bay is a professional pyrotechnics specialist than a movie director. He tries so hard to entertain but when you take your time to dissect the movie, its just full of relentless blowups and action sequence that a plausible story (which was left on the curb). Sorry, I am not fool this time.

movie review: The Adventure of Tintin-The secret of the Unicorn

Honestly I am not the biggest fan of the comics, but I do read some of them when I was a little kid.
So I was honestly excited when I saw the trailer, earlier this year, that I made a point to see this at the cinema when it comes out.
Tintin is a seriously smart and diligent at finding and solving crimes. We find Tintin in serious trouble again. It involves a sunken ship and a feud between two rival pirates. I wouldn't want to spoil the fun for you readers out there  who are reading this. 
Spielberg and Jackson did a seriously good job on the technical aspect of the movie. It was like watching a beautiful oil painting on a canvas.The colors on this movie is so stunningly vivid. Besides that, there were some nice set pieces in the movie that is a real treat to the senses. ( For example: the car chase scenes).
The pacing of the movie was just nice and constant throughout and the comic timing is right on cue and not too overdone. Importantly, the director and writers did an awesome job in bringing Tintin into the big screen. The big screen Tintin feels like the comic Tintin, fast, witty and engaging.
There is only one quip I have about the character  in the movie though. I did feel that Mr Tintin and co had too much botox at their faces that their expression felt constricted and limited. If the facial expression were given more thought , then I think we would felt even more emotions coming out of the character in the movie, I am just saying.
